Meet Miss Rigby The Boat Kitty: A Cat With A Love For Sailing

Many years ago, we started hearing stories about adventure cats. These fearless felines have a quest for adventure, and they aren’t your typical scaredy cats. Miss Rigby is one of those cats. She spends her days sailing the high seas, and she’s decided “a pirate’s life for me” is her mantra.

Miss Rigby has a few other nicknames that her human call her. Because, after all, doesn’t everybody have at least a handful of nicknames for their feline friend? This gorgeous four-year-old Champagne American Burmese also answers to Riggs, Riggles, or Chicken. You know, when she feels like it!

Rigby’s “crew” is husband, Shane, and wife, Maryvonne, who were previous business owners before embarking on their new journey with their cat right there by their side. They quit their architecture business ten years ago to pursue their shared passion for sailing and they haven’t looked back since.

Daily Mail shared Maryvonne’s story of how Miss Rigby came to be:

“Rigs came from a breeder in Connecticut. She joined us on the boat in Long Island, New York, and since then we have sailed up and down the East Coast and into the Bahamas numerous times.”

Little Rigby as a kitten, before her pirate life rise to fame!

“We have been through the Caribbean with her down to Grenada stopping at most islands. She has travelled on our 50′ sailboat as well as larger powerboats that we have worked on and delivered up and down the U.S East Coast.”

Her humans report that she is happiest at sea, and itches to go back whenever she’s decided that they’ve been on land for too long. Once she knows it’s time to go back, like a happy little clam she pounces right back to her “ship” to set sail on the high seas!

“She basically owns the boat and we just take her everywhere,” Shane says.

This fierce feline might be a dog trapped in a cat’s body, or perhaps it’s a testament to her breed which are notorious for being dog-like.

Watch as she rides the dinghy to her boat—she’s clearly ready for action!

For this semi-retired couple, their cat has brought them just as much joy as their travels have. They know that things wouldn’t be as great without her by their side, and they’re both over the moon about their cat that loves nothing more than to set sail with them.

Always keeping her eyes peeled to the seas!
